Chkobba Café

Our mission

Chkobba Café exists for one reason: keep chkobba alive online without ads-everywhere dark patterns, sign-up walls, or pay-to-win tricks. We want a calm, café-like place where you can spin up a room in seconds, send the code to three friends, and play a couple of quick rounds during a coffee break — exactly like sitting at a real café table with a worn deck.

The game is and will remain free to play. There is no real-money wagering of any kind: no in-game purchases, no virtual chips you can trade for cash, no leaderboards tied to prizes. Just the cards.

What is Chkobba?

Chkobba (also written Chkoba, Skoba, or Scopa in its Italian cousin) is a fishing-style card game played across the western Mediterranean. In Tunisia it is the household game — played at family gatherings, on long ferry rides, and at every neighbourhood café from Bab Bhar to Sfax. The name comes from the Italian scopa, "broom", because clearing the table in a single move "sweeps" it clean.

The deck is a 40-card Italian deck: four suits (denari/coins, coppe/cups, spade/swords, bastoni/clubs), values 1 through 7 plus three court cards (fante/J = 8, cavallo/Q = 9, re/K = 10). Two teams of two compete to capture cards from a shared table; at the end of each round, points are awarded for who captured the most cards, the most coins, the seven of coins (settebello), the best primiera, and every chkobba achieved during play.

A full rulebook with worked examples is on the How to Play page.

What is this website?

Chkobba Café is a browser-based 4-player (2 vs 2) version of the game with a relaxed café aesthetic — wood and felt textures, a chalkboard scoreboard, a soundboard for that classic café banter. Rooms are private by default: you create a short code, share it with three friends, and only people with that code can sit at the table.

Who runs the café?

Chkobba Café is operated by Mohamed Rayene Romdhane, a small independent project based in France, European Union. We are not affiliated with any casino, gambling operator, or commercial card-game company. This is a hobby project funded by display advertising (kept light and out of the way) so that the game itself can stay free.

For any question, bug report, or legal request, see the Contact page. Privacy and data-protection requests go to privacy@chkobagame.xyz.

Fair play & community

The café is for friendly games. We don't tolerate harassment, slurs, or cheating — the nickname and avatar fields are not a stage for hate speech. If someone in your room is spoiling the fun, kick them and try a fresh room code.

The card-shuffling and dealing logic runs on our server; clients receive only what their seat should see. We use server-authoritative rules to prevent client-side tampering. If you spot a bug or an exploit, please tell us — see Contact.

Accessibility

We aim for WCAG 2.1 AA on all static pages. Every page has a skip link, visible focus rings, and respects prefers-reduced-motion. The in-game UI is more dynamic — if you encounter an accessibility blocker (screen-reader issues, contrast problems, keyboard traps) please reach out via Contact and we'll prioritise it.
